Me 101: Intro to Moi
Hello, all! My name’s Amanda and I’m 26. I’m not quite settled on my username yet, but we’ll go with it as it is for now.
I majored in creative writing but haven’t done much since I graduated. I think I lost some of my love for it and creativity when being forced to write outside of my chosen genre (I don’t really like literary fiction because I much prefer reading Fantasy/Speculative Fiction types and having to write something I don’t enjoy just made me resent it all). Sorry for the impromptu therapy session!
I mainly have written poetry as I’m too much of a perfectionist and try to start editing before I finish writing even a chapter. And I get lost in the research and trying to plan and never get to the actual writing.
I have a writing prompt blog on tumblr that I post writing prompts I have gathered along with articles that might help writers. I haven’t followed any of my own advice (or prompts) as of yet, but I hope to get back into writing soon, most likely with fanfiction first (HUGE Harry Potter fan! Huffleclaw or Ravenpuff, depending on the day).
Ok, last thing, I swear! I have a copyediting certificate so if anyone ever needs something edited for grammar, spelling, usage, continuity, etc., I’d be happy to help. And I’ve always wanted to try my hand at beta reading which I guess is kind of the same as my copyediting certificate and what the workshop forums are all about. It's the career I want to have instead of being an admin assistant for a landscape company for the rest of my life.
Ok, that’s it for now!

Welcome, Amanda! It's been awhile since we talked. I feel you on literary fiction draining your creativity, I think that's why I started writing my first novel in the first place. I was frustrated with the restrictions in literary fiction and just kinda got carried away. I didn't realize I was was writing a novel right away, haha.
It's really great to hear from you again and I'm so glad that you joined up. I thought some of the old Carroll writing folks would appreciate this ^_^

Thanks for the invite! I hope that I can help these fellow writers and that, by being around other writers, I'll be able to jump-start my creativity again Even just posting like this will force me to think and try to be more creative so it's a definite start!

Hey Amanda! Looks like we've got a few things in common, heh. I dropped out of my creative writing master's program for the same reason (well, and a bunch of other stuff) - being forced to write "literary" was not working out well for me. Alas.
Also! What's your tumblr? I'll totally follow you I can never have enough writers to follow on there.

@tlbodine - I can make a thread in general discussion for sharing tumblrs, if you'd like! I'm on there, as is Adel.
Actually, I'll just do that since it seems like a nice way to get to know each other a bit better.
